Are Gamers Accidentally Killing Games?

There are a ton of reasons that we are waiting to play games these days. Everything from backlog to budgetary reasons is keeping us away from playing our games. When gamers aren’t fully investing in games early on, how do we keep them alive?

Unfortunately, the gaming landscape has changed so much over the years. There is a ton of quality content hitting the market, but “older” gamers don’t have as much time to play games as they used to. There is another group of gamers who are locked into games like Fortnite, Roblox, Warzone, and the occasional sports title. Now, there is nothing wrong with this, but this is causing many companies to panic and try to recreate the magic of those games.

Pulling people away from games that they have invested hundreds of hours into is a struggle. Recently, Highguard had to shut down even though many players were enjoying it. In the past, we could leave a game and revisit it later, but due to increased costs, games now need to show cash flow immediately.

Could we gamers be partially to blame for so many games shutting down and studio closures?
