Puzzle games have always been a guilty gaming pleasure of mine. When I saw Dreampainters come to my inbox, I knew I had to check it out during PAX. This game is a puzzle platformer that takes inspiration from games like Portal. You play as a struggling artist who volunteers for a dream study. Each color in your dream world represents a different ability. Use these abilities to solve puzzles and discover secrets.
Developer Stability Games is a small team of six developers that is creating something that is truly interesting to play. You can clearly see where the game is pulling inspiration from but it has it’s own identity. The art style and music make Dreampainters extrememly calming to play. As you unlock more colors or abilities, the more of the game you can explore.
I think once players get their hands on Dreampainters, much like Portal, there will be a ton of time spent in this world. There is also a co-op mode that will add additional play time to the game. In the co-op mode, there are additional puzzles that can only be solved with a partner.
Stability Games is targeting a 2027 release for Dreampainters. At the moment, the team is only focusing on a PC release, but keep your eyes on this one. Head over to Steam to wishlist and join the playtest!
