It looks like the Xbox console is getting a price increase, and gamers are taking another hit in a crazy market. Starting today (May 1, 2025), Xbox consoles and accessories will be more expensive in the US. We have seen a few price increases in other regions, but it’s time for the US to join the party. You can see the new prices listed below. Also, beginning this holiday season, Microsoft has stated that there will be some titles that will release with an 80-dollar price tag. Check out the table below for the new console prices.
Xbox Series S 512GB | $379.99 |
Xbox Series S 1TB | $429.99 |
Xbox Series X Digital | $549.99 |
Xbox Series X | $599.99 |
Xbox Series X 2TB Galaxy Black Special Edition | $729.99 |
This is the first time that we are seeing a price increase of this magnitude in the US this far in a console generation. Microsoft and Xbox are crediting the price increases to increasing development costs. There hasn’t been a confirmation whether the recent tariffs and government decisions factor into this price increase. I am sure we will see a huge impact going into the holiday season. I’m sure that Nintendo Switch 2’s price doesn’t seem so bad now.
Some of the comments from the Xbox side make it seem like they are offering up their cloud services as an alternative. Was this the cause of the “This is an Xbox” campaign? I don’t think that will suffice for most fans of the brand. A price increase in a turbulent economy will have some asking questions. What do you all think of this choice?
