After much speculation, we finally have the official price for the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally handhelds. The base ROG Xbox Ally will be $599, and the more premium X model will be $999 at launch. This won’t be a surprise to many, but some were hoping for a lower price tag.
These prices fall in line with the original ROG Ally devices that were released a couple of years ago. Maybe some consumers thought that attaching the Xbox brand would subsidize the price in some way? The Xbox version of these mobile PCs sports a more powerful chip, additional USB-C ports for charging and connecting peripherals, and improved ergonomics. I believe that the Xbox ROG Ally is for a specific consumer. Xbox is providing customers with many ways to play, so I wouldn’t call this pricing exclusionary.
If you are looking to grab an ROG Xbox Ally, I think the base model will suit most people’s needs. At $599, it’s an improved and cheaper model than its ROG Ally counterpart. If you mainly sit at a desk or couch and game, this may not be for you. Also, remember that this is a handheld pc and not a console. All of the games in your library may be playable on the devices.
Overall, I think this is a cool piece of tech that not everyone needs to rush out and buy. If you are interested, check out the links below to preorder.
