Use The Govee Pixel Light to Upgrade Your Setup

When the Govee Pixel Light first appeared in my inbox, I immediately thought of the old Lite Brite toys from my childhood. Now that I have spent some time with the Pixel Light, I’ve learned that it does so much more. Once everything is set up in the Govee app and connected to Wifi, there are a ton of cool things you can do with the device.

If you’re into gaming setups that go beyond RGB strips and reactive bulbs, the Govee Gaming Pixel Light might be your next favorite thing. I’ve been testing the 32×32 panel on my desk for a few weeks now, and it’s been way more fun than I expected. There is also a larger 52×32 version if you prefer something a little larger for your setup.

Out of the box, it shows the time, weather, and date—but that’s just the surface. You can load up pixel art, animations, and even make your own. The app is where the magic happens. It syncs with other Govee lights, reacts to sound, and lets you browse a library of community-made GIFs (or “JIFs,” if you’re that person). The Pixel Light is compatible with various smart assistants, and you are able to set timers and alarms. You can’t load your own sounds but its not the end of the world.

Creating your own images is surprisingly easy. I sketched a quick animation using the app’s DIY tool—bare bones, but it worked. There’s no desktop version yet, but you can upload from your phone or computer if you want more control. And yes, there’s even an AI feature that lets you generate pixel art by voice. It’s not perfect, but it’s a cool touch.

Mounting is simple, and the build fits right into most setups. At $119 for the 32×32 version, it’s not cheap, but if you’re into lighting and customization, it’s worth it. I’ve had a blast with it, and I’ll probably end up grabbing the bigger one soon.
